HERE'S MY STORY — AND WHY I CAN MAKE A UNIQUE CONTRIBUTION TO OUR SCHOOL BOARD

I've lived in the northwest my whole life.  I grew up just down the road in Jefferson where my parents were field workers.  When my father was seriously injured on the job, working to help support my family became my main focus, and I left school. For a while, like many kids who don't finish school, I was on the wrong track.  But I was lucky - I was able to find some caring mentors, and thanks to their help I got myself on the right track. I completed my GED at Chemeketa Community College, and then I apprenticed to become an electrician. I've been working at Cherry City Electric for nearly a decade, and I am now a project manager there. My wife and I have four great kids who are all successful in school.

My life has had some challenges, but also much good fortune, and now I want to give back to the community that has provided so much to me and to my family. I have been active in school booster clubs and recently I was honored to serve on the school district boundary task force. I've learned a lot about what is going well in our schools, but I've also seen areas where work still needs to be done so that all of our children can succeed. I want to use that knowledge, and my experience coming up the hard way and learning a trade, to be a valuable member of our school board. There is no one on the school board today with my background and experience. I hope you will support me to bring a unique perspective to our school board in the years ahead.
